Natural CBD vs Synthetic CBD

Natural CBD vs Synthetic CBD

Natural CBD has shown a swift rise in the popularity, with a growing array of CBD related products available for consumption.

Distinguishing the difference between natural & synthetic CBD can be confusing. In this article we will define the differences between natural & synthetic, with the proposed benefits associated.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a natural compound known as a cannabinoid, found within the cannabis plant. Cannabis holds over 100 different chemical compounds known as cannabinoids Some of these cannabinoids include tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and lesser known cannabinoids, like CBD, CBN and CBG, CBD.

Each cannabinoid has its own unique set of distinguishable features including benefits, therapeutic properties, and chemical structure. CBD is noticeably popular in consumption & research for properties that can support pain management, sleep function, mood balance, inflammation and much more

Relaxed legal status’s surrounding CBD has led to manufacturing of products that contain CBD isolate. These products include oils, tinctures, topical creams and gels, and edibles.

Cannabinoids interact with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) to produce therapeutic effects that are continually under review in modern research. This includes CBD. Research suggests that the Endocannabinoid System is a highly complex, cell signalling system that consists of endocannabinoids and receptors.

These receptors are found around the entire human body, most notably the brain & nervous system. Chemical interactions with the endocannabinoid system have been found to play a part in regulating human body processes through interactions with receptors.

What is Natural CBD?

CBD goes under a process of manufacturing and refinement before it is used within products. Natural CBD is derived from the cannabis plant, more specifically the Hemp plant.

It is then extracted, the method of extraction usually varies from ethanol extraction, cold pressing, or CO2 extraction. After the CBD has been successfully extracted, additional processing can be carried out.

The process of extraction can determine whether related cannabinoids are retained (this is known as Full Spectrum), selectively removed (this knows as Broad Spectrum) or completely removed (This is known as an isolate). Cannabinoid extraction is altered so suit requirements for different products.

CBD continues to be researched heavily, and has been shown to provide wide-ranging benefits that can influence both mental & physical wellbeing.

What is Synthetic CBD?

Whilst natural is produced from the Cannabis plant (or hemp plant to be specific), synthetic CBD is laboratory produced. This is carried out via chemical synthesis with the assistance of variable ingredients like limonene. It can also be carried out through Biological Synthesis, using bacteria or modified yeast.

Premium quality synthetic CBD is considered to have an almost identical chemical structure to natural. Synthetic CBD is an inviting alternative to natural, particularly for industries with strict regulatory guidelines. An example of this is the cosmetic industry.

Natural CBD is popular amongst users for its wide-ranging effects, the production of synthetic CBD is a valuable asset for a wide range of consumer applications requiring high yield and consistency.

Natural CBD vs Synthetic CBD

There are some notable differences between natural & synthetic CBD. There are also some striking similarities.

Synthetic CBD is generally manufactured to contain more specific cannabinoid volumes such as pure CBD molecules. On the other hand, natural extracts are often accompanied by a variety of other naturally occurring cannabinoids, flavonoids compounds, and terpenes.

There is a mixed chemical composition for naturally formed CBD, this can often include other cannabinoids & receptors. Some research suggests that naturally sourced CBD can be more receptive to the endocannabinoid system. As a result, the therapeutic effect of natural CBD can be considered more variable.

Synthetic CBD is often designed to have a high affinity for receptors, resulting in long-lasting effects. It also considered almost 5 times cheaper to produce than naturally sourced cannabidiol.

In comparison, natural is considered to have a moderate affinity for receptors. This usually means that the effects can be relatively short-term.

Natural is a popular option as the other naturally occurring compounds can work together to create an entourage effect. This is where the effects & benefits can be amplified by chemical reactions created by a mixture of individual compounds, creating increases in potency.

The Bottom Line

Depending on requirements, there are various reasons to choose natural or synthetic CBD, and it’s purely down to what end product is intended. Studies have shown similarity in chemical formation, with both providing therapeutic effects for the consumer.

Choosing high-quality CBD products from a reputable company is essential, and checking in with your health professional before starting use is recommended if you have any underlying health conditions.

The Rise of CBD Sweets

CBD sales are rife with a range of different products available to a variety of different customers. As technology continues to advance, so does manufacturing innovation. Popular methods of CBD consumption include oils, balms & vape pens.

Taste can be an important factor when choosing your favoured wellness supplements. That’s why options such as CBD sweets, chocolates & other delicious edibles have become so popular in recent years.

Why do people use CBD sweets?

The most common people have turned to edible supplements as an alternative to capsules, pills & other methods are:

  • Easy to use
  • Great taste (no hemp taste)
  • Predetermined doses
  • Smoke free
  • Longer lasting effect

The great thing about gummies or other CBD sweets is that they match the physical and mental benefits that any other CBD product would provide. The difference is that edibles release slower than oils or vapes.

The great thing about CBD sweets is they fit so seamlessly into your daily routine. Instead of the hassle of trying to accurately measure dosage amounts using an oil dropper, everything is pre-measured. This makes it much simpler to integrate natural wellbeing properties such as mood balance, sleep maintenance & appetite regulation.

How consumption of CBD works

Inhaling, ingesting, topically-applying, and sublingual administration (under the tongue) are considered the more popular routes of administration for CBD products, ranging from 5 – 15 minutes. On the other hand, ingesting CBD can take anything up to 2 hours.

When you ingest a CBD sweet, it usually takes longer to release, but ultimately has a longer lasting effect. As CBD edibles go through your digestive system, they are processed over a longer period, with nutrients being absorbed at a slower speed. CBD sweets & other edibles benefit people who want their CBD to last longer, rather than faster.

What Are The Best CBD Sweets?

CBD edibles can come in several different formats, with CBD sweets, gummies & chocolates being the most popular, and the most delicious. CBD sweets are perfect for somebody looking to maintain optimum wellness whilst on the go!

The primary benefit of this is that you can them throughout the day, at your ideal time & without having to measure. This makes all edibles the most delicious & convenient way to prioritise wellness with ease.

Do CBD sweets get you high?

Whether or not CBD gummies get you high depends on two different factors: dosage and extract type.

Dosage

Full spectrum CBD gummies contain the whole hemp plant extract, meaning they come complete with hemp’s wide array of cannabinoids: CBD, CBN, CBG, THC, and more. Full spectrum CBD products are required by law to contain less than 0.2% THC. This amount of THC is very small, but if you decide to take a large dose of a full spectrum CBD product, the likelihood increases that you could experience a high feeling.

Extract Type

CBD products usually come with 3 different extract types:

  • CBD Isolate
  • Broad Spectrum CBD
  • Full Spectrum CBD

If you are concerned about experiencing a high or consider yourself to be THC sensitive, try considering a THC-Free Broad Spectrum CBD extract. This extract contains all of the same beneficial cannabinoids and the entourage effect like full spectrum CBD, but without the THC. When shopping for CBD edibles, ensure that all products are 3rd party batch tested by accredited labs to ensure THC levels are correct.

Setyl Infusions Gummies

If you’re looking for a natural, great tasting way to maintain wellbeing with CBD sweets then look no further than our tubs of CBD gummies:

– Our Wild Cherry Gummies are 50mg each (high strength)

We recommend just one of our high strength gummies per 24 hour period, or no more than two of our medium strength gummies in a 24 hour period. For other gummy products, the recommended dosage is dependent on the quality of the ingredients & the advertised potency.

If you have a craving all things sweet, you may want to use lower dosage gummies so you can eat more of them! The great thing with CBD sweets is that the choice is completely up to you. Other great edibles include chocolate, coffee, honey, coconut oil & much more!

If you really wanted to be creative, why not try adding our water soluble CBD into your cooking? Maybe infuse it into a chocolate cake? Or make your own sweets? The possibilities can be endless!

Side effects of Edible CBD

Negative side effects with the use of CBD edibles are rare & highly unlikely. CBD is a compound that has been shown to be commonly well-tolerated by a diverse array of users with various conditions.

Nonetheless, there can be signs of adverse side effects. These can include:

  • Decreased appetite
  • Light head or dizziness
  • Diarrhoea
  • Vomiting & Nausea
  • Low Blood Pressure
  • Drowsiness

It should be advised these are not considered common side effects of CBD consumption & generally picked up with consumers who are not familiar with nutrient dense foods, herbal medicine, or new to CBD.

Why do people love hemp products?

With the CBD & medical cannabis industry skyrocketing over the last few years, there’s no doubt that consumers love hemp products. But hemp goes far beyond the health & wellness sector.

Hemp is grown for use in many other types of products. Some of these products include food, fabric, rope, other natural remedies, and much more. Different sections of hemp plant are used to make different types of hemp related products.

Hemp is generally grown around the world, although commonly sourced in USA, Canada, Europe & China. Just like CBD, strictness of laws can vary depending on where hemp is being grown & manufactured. For example, regulations in China are deemed less strict than Canada.

Hemp seeds are generally legal to ingest across the globe, and of course in the United Kingdom.

If you’re conscious of personal wellbeing & love hemp products, here are some great other hemp based resources to keep your health on track.

Hemp Seeds

Many people love hemp seeds They’re edible and packed with nutritional essentials that are vital for skin & heart health. These include fiber, Omega-3 & Omega-6 healthy fatty acids. Getting all of these nutrients within a western diet can be difficult so hemp seeds are a great way to tackle that.

There is a common misconception that hemp is the same as marijuana, and therefore has the same psychoactive properties. To put a long story short, this is false. You can read about this in detail via our blog post, breaking down THC & CBD.

Hemp Oil vs. CBD Oil

Is hemp oil, or hempseed oil, the same as CBD oil?

The short answer is no. Hempseed derives from hemp seeds only, and not the cannabis plant. It is manufactured by cold-pressing raw hemp seeds. Hemp oil, just like olive oil & other MCT oils, can be used for cooking.

Hemp oil is also popular cosmetics such as skin cream & hair conditioner. Many have reported benefits including reduction of skin irritation & treatment of eczema.

On the other hand, CBD is derived from the cannabis plant. For the effects to come to life, CBD needs to be combined with a base oil such as olive oil, avocado oil or coconut oil. Find out about CBD in more detail here.

Hemp Protein

Protein powder has been a mainstay in the fitness & health industry for a long time now. With people becoming more conscious of what they’re putting into their bodies, enter Hemp protein. Hemp Protein has become super popular as it contains many essential amino acids.

Hemp protein is a particularly popular choice for vegans because it contains essential fatty acids that can be harder to source from non-meat or dairy based products.

Integrating Hemp Products into your diet

The flavour of hemp can be described as a mild, nut-like flavour. Similar to sunflower seeds, the impact on flavouring will not be significant. There are countless ways to integrate healthy hemp resources into your daily routine. Here we’ve listed some of our favourites:

– Adding hemp seeds or hemp protein into a smoothie or blended juice
– Adding hemp seeds or hemp protein into porridge, oatmeal or cereal
– A dash of hempseed oil over your favourite salads
– Infusing hempseed oil into butter (or nut butter).
– Using hempseed oil as an alternative to olive oil
– Infusing hempseed oil into stews or sauces
– Infusing hempseed oil into cakes or other tasty treats

The list is endless, all you need is a little creativity & a cold, dry place to store your favourite hemp goodies.

Research suggest that arthritis becomes apparent in up to 1 in 4 dogs. Even though it is such a common thing, peoples understanding of symptoms are relatively uncommon.

Arthritis (osteoarthritis) is a condition that affects joints and causes them to become swollen and painful.

Healthy joints have a smooth surface, this allows them to interact with each other freely. Cartilage is a firm but flexible connective tissue that serves as a natural shock absorber in the joints and between bones.

A joint with arthritis has an uneven and damaged surface, this results in the bone surfaces rubbing against each other, leading to swelling and uncomfortable pain.

Over a long period of time, joints effected by arthritis slowly become thickened and stiff and start to produce new bone that isn’t needed. The extra bone causes more pain when your dog, cat or other pet moves around.

Common signals of arthritis with pets

– Limping
– Stiffness
– Slowness when getting up or laying down
– Reluctance to go on walks
– Reluctance or inability to jump
– Reduced mobility
– Excessive panting
– Sleeping more than usual

As moving around becomes more and more difficult, pets naturally want to avoid activity. This can lead to increases in weight, which ultimately adds further complications. More weight is more strain on the affected areas.

It’s important to pay very close attention to your pets behaviour & weight. Use dieting regular exercise to help them stay in good shape.

Whether it is the best CBD oil in the UK or not, it’s important to note that medical research for treating pets with arthritis is still in it’s early stages. Whilst research has been promising, regulators advise that CBD should not be used or advertised as a medical supplement.

Promising research has however shown that CBD can be highly effective for relieving symptoms of joint pain and arthritis.

Studies by the Colorado State University has suggested that CBD can have powerful pain-relieving and anti inflammatory effects, making it a very viable option for treating the symptoms of arthritis.

Other studies from researchers at the University of Kentucky, USA, found similar results using CBD gels in 2016.

After trialling CBD Gels on rats with arthritis, they found that the gel aided swelling around the joints & reduced inflammation in just 4 days. This ultimately led to reductions in pain too.

What is Water Soluble CBD?

Water Solubility is a high priority for us. We firmly believe that Water Soluble CBD is a game changer for CBD consumers. So far, we’ve been proven correct.

No matter what supplement you use, incorporating wellness into your daily routine should feel natural. So should the ingredients that you are absorbing.

CBD by nature, is not water soluble. CBD is “lipophilic”, meaning that it dissolves into oil. This is because the CBD molecule is an oil, and being fats, oils don’t dissolve into water.

The human body is made up of around 65% water. Therefore, conventional CBD oil products waste an alarming amount of CBD before truly reaching the bloodstream. This results in underwhelming levels of potency & together with the requirement for sublingual application, has been a key blocker for CBD consumers.

What is Water Soluble CBD?

Water Solubility follows a process of breaking CBD down into tiny particles so that water can absorb it faster, and more effectively. This is a common process used in pharmaceutical medicine that is becoming more prominent with modern technology advancements.

Breaking the CBD down into smaller particles allows for a much faster absorption rate & for a larger amount of CBD to reach the bloodstream. This is known as maximizing Bioavailability.

Some modern research studies have suggested that Water Soluble CBD has a Bioavailability of up to 4 times higher than standard CBD.

The Science Behind the Magic

When CBD has been orally ingested, it takes the same pathway of digestion as anything else you eat. The process for water soluble CBD is comparable to other essential nutrients like Vitamin B12.

The water-soluble molecules absorb through the wall of the small intestine into intestinal cells, and then pass through to the liver. Fats & oils also travel to the liver, although this is often via a separate route known as the lymphatic system.

The liver processes many interacting molecules before releasing them into circulation around the body. CBD is one of these molecules.

The tiny size of broken down CBD particles means that absorption into the body is more receptive to areas like the mucous membranes and other key areas of absorption.

Did You Know? Oil soluble CBD is more effective when taken with food? If you are using CBD Oil, make sure you eat immediately before or after using it to maximise your experience.

How should I use Water Soluble CBD?

Unlike typical CBD oil, Water Soluble products are not taken sublingually, they should be added to food & drinks. Unlike CBD oils, Water Soluble CBD will not lose it’s potency when mixed with water based substances!

This gives consumers many more options for ingesting their CBD. Be as creative as you want by adding CBD into all of your favourite drinks without compromising flavour or potency.

Why not try Setyl Infusions Zenergy in a smoothie or protein shake? Zenergy is our 500mg tincture designed to support daily wellbeing, manage exercise recovery and sustain daily focus & performance.
